09:56 pm - Almost there

So I’m exhausted and don’t remember the last time that I updated.

The latest, aside from school things, is that I went to get a trim with Grace the other day and at the last moment decided to get long layers. It was really random and I don’t know why I did it but I was thinking at the time that I had never actually had a haircut that wasn’t just a trim. Anyway, I now look like what Harry Potter would look like if his hair was a longer and he gained a hundred or so pounds. It basically just looks like I don’t brush it and it’s growing in all directions. And although the hairdresser mentioned that my hair seems to grow faster on the right side than on the left, it seems that she didn’t bother to even the sides out. It doesn’t really matter b/c I never wear my hair down but I thought I’d share.

What else? Well, to add to the look, my crazy mom bought me some earrings and she made such a big thing out of them that I didn’t have the heart to turn them down without at least trying them. I hate anything in gold and anything that’s not really tiny, especially for my ears b/c I really don’t need to be accentuating the already extreme largeness. So she bought me giant (by my standards), thick, gold hoops. I put them on and felt like a pirate and that kind of made me happy so I think they are going to work out ok. None of you will recognize me as chubby, pirate Harry Potter the next time you see me.

So anyway, this semester has probably been the most hellish yet and I’m dying for it to be over. I have class tomorrow and on Thursday (despite the fact that Thursday is reading day) and then I have two finals (scheduled at the exact same time—7:45 – 10:15) on Friday. My class that is still running on reading day is holding one last regular class session next Thursday during finals week and then I am done and can finally get my ass back into the lab. I’ll be doing lab prep during summer B which will kind of blow but will be much better than teaching and I will need the money since I’m officially off of my parents’ health insurance as of the 30th and it is looking like I’m going to be shelling out 300$ a month for some HMO come May 1. Still waiting to hear back from BlueCross for what I hope will be a cheaper plan.

But yeah, I’m tired, stressed and coming down with a chest cold (mom and dad are both sick and one of those cruise ship viruses is going around FAU right now so I knew I was doomed—I’m just glad I got the chest cold rather than the stomach bug so far anyway) and thankfully done with my Integrative final paper and with finalizing my student’s grades and am now just trying to avoid studying for my tests. Despite how crazed I have been this semester I’m a little sad to be done with teaching. One of my two classes has probably been the most entertaining yet and I will be missing my bit of fun during the week.

This has gotten too long but, like I said, I’m stalling. To add to the length, I thought I’d steal the following from James’ journal and include it in order to give myself yet another thing to do that did not include studying.

So anyway, I hope that everyone is doing well at this stressful time of the semester. Oh, and lastly, Anthony got a job in a crime lab and I’m thinking that once I get out of here (hopefully no later than the coming fall term) that I would like to do that. I don’t really ever want to think again and really anyone can be trained to do the techniques required in that kind of a job and I doubt there are too many that they use that I am not already familiar with. I don’t think I ever want to have anything to do with research or academia ever again and I feel pretty good about it. Alright, time to hit the books for real now.
